Pernod Ricard was established in 1975 through the merger of two family-owned companies – Pernod and Ricard. However, the group’s roots reach much further back in history. In 1805, Henri Louis Pernod founded the first absinthe distillery in France. In 1932, Paul Ricard introduced an anise-flavored drink called pastis, which quickly became the national beverage of France. Headquartered in Paris, the company is currently led by Alexandre Ricard, who succeeded his uncle, Patrick Ricard, in 2015. Patrick was the son of the company’s founder, Paul Ricard.
